Best Time to Book Your Glasgow Removal (And When to Avoid)
When you move house often matters just as much as who you move with. Book at the wrong time and you’ll pay more, have less choice, and add stress to an already busy day. Here’s how to time it right.

Book As Early As You Can
The single biggest mistake people make is leaving their removal booking until the last minute. As soon as you have a completion date — or even a likely one — get in touch. Good removal teams get booked up weeks in advance, especially around:
• End of month — most tenancies and many house sales complete at month-end, so this is the busiest, most expensive time to move.
• Fridays — the most popular moving day of the week, which means the least flexibility and often higher demand.
• School holidays — families with kids tend to move during summer, so June to August is peak season.
The Cheapest, Easiest Times to Move
If your dates are flexible, you can save money and get better availability by moving:
• Mid-month rather than the last few days of the month
• Tuesday to Thursday rather than Friday or the weekend
• Outside school holidays, if you don’t have children whose schooling depends on the move date
Midweek, mid-month moves are consistently the quietest — which means more availability, and sometimes better pricing.
What About Weather?
Glasgow weather is unpredictable at the best of times, but there are a few practical considerations:
• Winter moves mean shorter daylight hours and a higher chance of ice on stairs or driveways — plan for an earlier start.
• Summer moves are in higher demand but generally easier logistically, with longer days and better conditions for loading/unloading.
Whatever the season, a good removal team should come prepared either way — proper floor protection, non-slip mats for icy steps, and enough hands to keep things moving quickly regardless of weather.
How Far in Advance Should You Book?
As a general rule:
• 4+ weeks out: ideal for house moves, giving you the best pick of dates and time to plan packing.
• 2 weeks out: still workable for most moves, especially midweek.
• Last minute (under a week): possible, but your options narrow fast — especially at weekends or end of month.
Flexible Dates = Better Value
If you can be flexible even by a few days, it’s always worth asking your removal company which day in that window has the most availability. It often works out cheaper and less rushed for everyone.
