I Spent My Wedding Fund on a Van. Three Months Later, I Got Married Anyway.

Most business stories start with a plan. Mine started with fear — and a decision I wasn't sure I'd be able to explain to my wife.

The Leap

A few months before our wedding day, I took money out of our wedding fund and bought a van. Not a new one, not a fancy one — just a van, and the beginning of what would become The Removal Kings.

At the time, it felt reckless. We had a wedding to pay for. We had a date set — 7th July 2024 — invitations going out, plans already in motion, and I was sitting there deciding to gamble a chunk of that money on the idea that I could build a removal company from nothing.

I remember the fear clearly. Not just "will this business work" fear, but the harder question underneath it: what happens if it doesn't, and I've put our wedding at risk for a van and an idea?

Why I Did It Anyway

I'd love to say I had it all figured out — a business plan, a safety net, months of careful preparation. The truth is closer to this: I believed I could build something real, I knew Glasgow needed a removal company that actually did things properly, and I knew that if I didn't take the leap then, with a deadline forcing my hand, I might never take it at all.

Sometimes the decision that looks the most reckless from the outside is actually the only way anything gets built. Waiting for the "safe" moment to start a business often means waiting forever.

The Three Months In Between

Those three months were a blur of trying to get the business off the ground while a wedding countdown ran in the background. Every booking mattered. Every job was a chance to prove — to myself, more than anyone — that this wasn't a mistake.

I won't pretend it was smooth. Starting a business from nothing, with your own wedding fund on the line, has a way of sharpening your focus in a way that comfort never does.

Somehow, it worked out. We got married on the 7th of July 2024, and I gave my wife the best day of her life — despite everything that had gone into getting us there. That day means more to me knowing what it took to protect it, not less.
